Which Omnium Cargo Bike is right for me? Helping you understand the Omnium Cargo range

Velo-1802 (2).jpg

EDIT [December 2023] - Please note all future WiFi orders and stock that is not currently in stock will be the latest V3 WiFi framekits, with the only change being the breakable chain stay to allow the option of running a carbon belt drive.

At the start of 2021, one of our favourite cargo bike companies, Omnium Cargo, announced they would be making a significant change to their cargo bikes range. This change allowed them to introduce their new and exciting 'WiFi' models while keeping the more affordable 'Classic' options.

The Omnium range is now split into two options:

  1. WiFi - The innovative big clearance (55mm) thru-axle option, allows for comfortable cycling on and off-road and more stability when riding with cargo

  2. Classic - Simplified version of the original, quick-release wheels and the standard 37mm tyre clearance (with mudguards), allowing it to keep its price point down

When choosing your Omnium cargo bike, it is essential to note the sizes and colours available. As a method of keeping costs down, Omnium have decided to release the Classic exclusively in a medium and in black; this applies to their entire cargo range; the Cargo, Mini Max, Mini and Mini Variant models. All Classic Completes will have Shimano Deore (or later in the year Sram Apex) groupsets.

Currently, WiFi options are available on the Cargo, Mini Max and Mini models; these are available in XS, S, M, L and XL with various colours: Blurple, Afternoon Blue, Forest Green, Space Black and Diablo Red, over 2023/24 Omnium will be introducing their latest colourways Intergalactic Guacamole, Copperhead, and Glorious Grey. WiFi Completes will be fitted with the Apex1 11 speed groupset.

Due to high demand, the Omnium releases their range in a series of drops; find the dates of these drops on the Omnium Future Stock page. If there is a particular model and size you would like to pre-order, please contact us before the estimated drop date to place a pre-order for you. Currently any ordered in stock will take between 3 and 5 weeks to arrive in the UK from the point of a deposit being paid and an order placed.

Omnium’s original cargo , in its modern WiFi form. Huge carrying capability without affecting steering. Lightweight steel with big tyre clearance and thru axle dropouts. In stock NOW.

‘The new Cargo WiFi has been optimized for 55mm (2.15″) tires front and rear. The list of benefits tied to bigger tires is long, but here’s a few we find important. High volume tires run at lower tire pressure, creating a significant layer of suspension between you and the ground. This results in far more comfort and control while riding on all surfaces, making easy work of rough roads, gravel, and cobblestones. The fast semi-slick tire tread design results in a minor rolling speed penalty, but more importantly increases grip, stability, and also reduces the risk of punctures.

The frame and fork have also been updated to take 15 x 100mm front and 12 x 142mm rear thru axles. Although thru axles were first seen on downhill mountain bikes in the late 90’s, most disc brake bikes these days use them. They make perfect sense on our cargo bikes. The axle bolts through a closed hole in the frame and fork, then through the hub, and threads directly into the dropout on the other side. Most importantly, this system increases stiffness, rigidity under braking and load, and reduces the risk of incorrect installation and disk brake rub.’
