Rogue Bistrot Takes Over the Velo Kitchen for Three Weeks

This September, we're handing over the Velo Domestique kitchen to our friends Dave and Jenny from Rogue Bistrot for a three-week pop-up.

Inspired by culinary adventures travelling around Europe in their van, Rogue will be bringing a French and Portuguese-influenced menu to Velo, with:

  • Breakfast from 8am–12pm - Thursday to Sunday

  • Lunch from 12pm–4pm- Thursday to Saturday

  • Special Sunday menu - 12pm-4pm

  • Three 'booking-only' Thursday night dinners

Our head chef Sarah is taking a few weeks away for the very exciting reason that she's getting married! Our usual Velo kitchen service will finish on Monday 7th September, returning on Saturday 3rd October. So grab the Breakfast Burrito this week until it takes a short break.

The rest of Velo Domestique carries on as usual throughout. We'll still be here serving delicious coffee, drinks and our usual selection of cakes — whether you're coming to try Rogue or just popping in for your usual coffee.

Meet Rogue Bistrot

Our friends Dave and Jenny have spent plenty of time travelling around Europe in their van — eating, drinking and picking up ideas along the way to build on their deep rooted love of hospitality and good food.

Rogue Bistrot is their opportunity to bring some of those culinary adventures home.

For three weeks this September, they'll be moving into the Velo Domestique kitchen with a menu that takes inspiration from the food they've encountered on their travels, particularly the bistros of France and the cafes and sandwich shops of Portugal.

It's simple, ingredient led. generous food that we're very excited to have being cooked in our kitchen.

What's on the menu?

Rogue will be serving breakfast from 8am–12pm, with a French-leaning menu of baguettes, Toulouse sausage, baked eggs and plenty of butter. We're particularly looking forward to the brilliantly simple Sandwich au Chocolat, made with dark chocolate and salted butter in a baguette.

From 12pm–4pm, dishes lean towards Portuguese influences, with dishes including the Bifana — pork shoulder braised in white wine, garlic and paprika, served with mustard and piri piri.

Sundays get their own menu from 12pm–4pm, centred around Poulet Rôti with chicken-fat potatoes, ratatouille and a selection of sides.

And across all three menus, expect the sort of food that sums up Rogue nicely: European-inspired, unfussy, generous and made for eating.

Rogue Bistrot Evenings: Thursday Dinners

Rogue won't just be here during the daytime.

Every Thursday of the three-week pop-up, Dave and Jenny will be taking over Velo for a booking-only evening dinner service.

These evenings will be a chance for Rogue to stretch their legs beyond the daytime menu and bring a little more of the European bistrot to Southbourne.

There'll be just three Thursday dinners during the residency, with limited spaces available each night.

Book these limited evening spaces directly through the Rogue Bistrot team.

We'll be sharing more details about the dinners very soon.

What's happening to the Velo kitchen?

Our head chef Sarah is heading off for a few weeks to get married, so we're giving our usual food service a short holiday too.

Our last day of usual Velo kitchen service is Monday 7th September, and Sarah and the usual Velo Domestique menu will be back from Saturday 3rd October.

Until then, the kitchen belongs to Rogue Bistrot.

Rogue Bistrot × Velo Domestique

We're really excited to give Dave and Jenny the keys to the kitchen and see a little bit of their travels around Europe arrive in Southbourne.

Come for breakfast, grab a Bifana for lunch, settle in for Sunday lunch or book yourself into one of the three Thursday dinners.

Or, as ever, you can just come for a coffee.
