10 Years Riding an Omnium cargo bike
In the last ten years, we've moved house, grown Velo Domestique, travelled across Europe and welcomed our daughter into the world. Through every chapter, one thing has remained remarkably consistent: we've been riding Omnium cargo bikes.
We've ridden Omniums in Copenhagen, Germany, Barcelona, Milan, and all over the UK. They've carried our dogs, cafe merch, camping gear, shopping, fellow cyclists with their punctured bikes, coffee equipment, bike boxes and everything in between, even a fridge. For two years, an Omnium was our only vehicle. Today, it's still our second car, replacing countless journeys that would otherwise be made by van.
More recently, it's been carrying our most precious cargo yet. Our daughter has been riding on the front since she was eight months old, and watching her experience the world from the front of an Omnium is amazing.
What we've always loved about Omnium is that they are the easiest cargo bikes to fit into your life. They don't feel like traditional bulky cargo bikes. They ride like bikes first and just happen to be incredibly good at carrying things. Whether you're commuting, joining us on a Pizza Run, heading to the shops, collecting children from school or setting off on a weekend adventure, they simply fit into everyday life.
Over the years, we've also been lucky enough to get to know the team at Omnium. They're passionate cyclists who are constantly refining their bikes based on real-world experience, and we're proud to be an official Omnium stockist. Jumbo, the company founder, wanted to build the fastest possible cargo bike to use as a messenger. Omnium cargo bikes have been used to win the Cycle Messenger World Championships against normal bikes on more than one occasion, so you could argue Jumbo exceeded his objective!

One of the questions we get asked most is whether to choose the Omnium Cargo or the Mini-Max. Our advice is simple: if you're carrying heavier loads (around 25kg or more) for more than half of your riding, we'd recommend the Cargo. If you spend more than half your time riding without cargo, the Mini-Max is usually the better choice.
The Cargo's longer wheelbase helps balance heavier loads, making steering feel more stable when carrying children, work equipment or larger deliveries. But if you've just dropped the kids at nursery or finished your deliveries, the Mini-Max's shorter wheelbase feels much closer to a regular bike, making the ride home quicker, lighter and more playful. So it is a slight trade off, but both are fantastically fun to ride and very versatile.

Omnium Nano & Omnium CXC
The Omnium Nano takes the Omnium Mini platform rack and shortens it further, creating a more compact, city-focused cargo bike. The overall length is reduced compared to the Mini, making it easier to store, manoeuvre, and live with day-to-day, especially in tighter urban spaces.
The key difference, though, is the rear wheel size. The Omnium Nano runs a smaller 20” rear wheel than the 29” rear on the Omnium Mini, which is what allows it to have such a small footprint.
The shortened wheelbase gives you flexibility of use and transport, meaning the Nano can fit into the back of a van easily to be taken on adventures. All without losing the practicality that makes Omnium bikes so useful.
The Omnium Nano comes in one size and this first edition run is very limited.
